Software Practice: Maya

Castle Assignment

For our first Maya assignment, I drew inspiration from the Bodiam Castle in Sussex. I explored with the modular 3D design process, creating the respective towers, chimneys, walls and entrances separately before combining them into one structure. This was the first time I’ve created anything in Maya and I found it quite challenging but I am proud of what I was able to come up with. I particularly enjoyed creating the arches and making sure my topology was right.

Hard Surface Modelling

Snowman Exercise

Making a snowman in class using spheres and cylinders.

Making a man from a block

UV and Texture

This was done in Substance Painter. We imported a model of a dog and tried out different smart materials and materials. We also learned how to mask and add colour/ textures in isolated areas.

Rigging

One of the characters I’m doing for my final project is a crab. I imported a model of a crab into Maya and created the skeleton for rigging for it.

Lighting and Rendering

We imported a model of a robot and assigned two textures to it. We then added a light and an HDRI environment before rendering the final.
